Koleč is about 11 km north-east of Kladno and 7 km south-west of Kralupy nad Vltavou.

The château in Koleč was established in the 18th century when the Ubelli family rebuilt a fortress. The Museum of Beekeeping has been housed there since 2016. The Church of the Holy Trinity in Koleč began as the Ubelli family's castle chapel. In 1898, it was enlarged to twice its size.
