Nové Strašecí lies at an altitude of 470 metres on the south-eastern side of Džbán Nature Park.

The first written mention of the settlement of Strašice dates from 1334. In 1503, the ruler raised it to town status. The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in Nové Strašecí was remodelled in the Renaissance style in 1553 and given a Baroque style in 1707.
